Jose: Fans should encourage Zlatan to stay

Jose Mourinho is convinced Manchester United’s Man of the Match in the EFL Cup final, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, will extend his increasingly-successful Reds career into a second season, yet the manager has jokingly suggested fans should camp outside the Swede’s house to seal the deal. Summer signing Ibrahimovic, now 35 years old, scored a superb brace against Southampton at Wembley to take his personal tally for the season to 26 goals in all competitions, emphasising his incredible contribution to a campaign that could yet yield even more trophies. Zlatan signed a one-year deal when he joined the club in June as a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, but a second term has been much discussed in light of his top form in England. Following the final whistle at Wembley on Sunday, Mourinho was asked about the probability of Ibra playing for United for another season and he delivered a typically original answer to reporters. “I never beg for a player to sign a contract, I never beg for a player to play for me,” Jose explained, before referencing his time as Ibra’s boss at Internazionale. “One day, Zlatan decided to go to Barca and I was very sad, but I did nothing to try to stop him from going. I don’t beg for players. “But, if needed, I think United fans can go to the door of his house and stay there all night [laughs]. I think they will go for sure. We want, we believe, that he is going to stay with us for one more season.”
